Reid Park Zoo’s ‘crew’ wins volunteer honor

Tucson, Nov. 4 — Southern Arizona Volunteer Management Association named Reid Park Zoo’s teen volunteer program its top Youth Volunteer Group of the Year.

Known as the Zoo Crew, the teens work on zoo grounds and handle different duties, but their primary purpose is to help guests connect with wildlife and learn about the zoo while encouraging a commitment to conservation of biological diversity. A group of teens pose for a photo with matching t-shirts.

“We are so excited to get this award from SAVMA,” said Sierra Horsey, Volunteer Program Coordinator of Reid Park Zoo. “Our teens have worked really hard. Last year they talked to over 30,000 people, and it’s so great to have them recognized for what they are doing in our community.”

Reid Park Zoo’s Zoo Crew will be honored Jan. 16 at the Southern Arizona Volunteer Management Association Awards, which recognize all levels of volunteerism including individuals, nonprofits and corporations.
