Notice for SAVMA Members and Sponsors:
In November 2021, the SAVMA Board of Directors met for a special meeting to discuss the SAVMA Awards Breakfast and our popular Volunteer Fair and Recognition Event. In light of COVID-19, both events were cancelled or rethought in the year 2020. The Board decided that due to the rise of COVID-19 cases during the fall and winter of 2021 as well as the spread of the Omicron variant, the SAVMA Awards Breakfast, which usually takes place in January, will be postponed for another year. However, it was agreed that SAVMA still wants to honor the amazing work done by individuals and organizations throughout Southern Arizona in response to the pandemic.
The community has stepped up in amazing ways over the last two years. Organizations have adapted to community needs and shifted models. Volunteers have gone above and beyond, all in support of their fellow community members. Therefore, the Board voted to combine the SAVMA Volunteer Fair held at Reid Park Zoo with the SAVMA Awards in a unique way for 2022. Community Service Recognitions, an honor usually given at the SAVMA Awards Breakfast, will be brought into the Volunteer Fair and the event as a whole will work a bit differently.
Meredith Bode, SAVMA Board Member and Program and Events Chair, will be the chair for this event. A committee was established and more people are welcome to join. More details, including sponsorship and volunteer opportunities will be announced in January. We can’t wait to put this event together and invite all of Southern Arizona organizations that support volunteers to consider participation.
